The diabetes suite in the Tasmanian HealthPathways has recently been reviewed and updated. To support awareness of the updates we are offering a three-part webinar series.
This second event will focus on medical management of hyperglycaemia and cardiovascular risk factors.
Topics to be covered include:
- how to select the most appropriate insulin
- optimising insulin therapy
- insulin titration
- blood pressure and lipid management
- choices of anti-hyperglycemic medications depending on comorbidities and their effects beyond glycemic control.
During the webinar, a review of how to initiate and manage insulin therapy in type 2 diabetes will be provided. Discussion will also focus on how to manage a patient with type 2 diabetes prescribed insulin in primary care and when escalation of care to specialist care is necessary.

Information about speakers:
Neroli Newlyn
Neroli is a nurse practitioner and credentialled diabetes nurse educator working within the diabetes education unit at the Royal Hobart Hospital. She has been an endorsed nurse practitioner for over 10 years working in outpatient diabetes management in both Sydney and in Hobart. Her areas of interest include chronic and complex disease management, hospital avoidance programs, and models of care.
Dr Bianca St John
Bianca completed training in internal medicine and subsequently in endocrinology and diabetes in Germany, where further study and research was undertaken in andrology. Following her move to Australia, Bianca undertook a fellowship in male reproductive health at Monash Medical Centre in conjunction with Andrology Australia. She then worked from 2014 until January 2019 at Monash Health as a consultant endocrinologist in endocrine and diabetes clinics as well as an andrologist at the Hudson Institute. Since 2019, Bianca has been working for the Tasmanian Health Service in north west Tasmania covering diabetes and endocrine clinics.
