This event supported GPs and primary care clinicians to recognise, assess and manage common burn presentations seen in the primary care setting, including criteria for referral to a specialist burns or plastics surgery service. This was the first in a two-part series focusing on plastics in Tasmania.

Nanda Kandamany
Mr Kandamany obtained his primary medical degree from the University of Dundee, Scotland, before embarking on Basic Surgical Training in Glasgow. Following this he undertook a Laser Research Fellowship in Bedford Hospital, England, gaining experience in the management of various acquired and congenital vascular and skin conditions. He went on to undertake a two-year laboratory research post in the Burns and Plastic Surgery Unit at the University of Bradford, England under the tutelage of Professor David Sharpe culminating in research that was presented both nationally and internationally.
Mr. Kandamany subsequently embarked upon specialist training in plastic and reconstructive surgery in Scotland at the world renowned Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit in Glasgow. After obtaining Fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians, Mr. Kandamany went on to join Professor Fiona Wood in Perth, Western Australia, where he completed a Burns Fellowship in adult and pediatric burns management, followed directly by a further Fellowship in Hand Surgery at Fremantle Hospital, Western Australia.
With a passion for general plastic and reconstructive surgery, Mr. Kandamany accepted a consultant post at the Royal Hobart Hospital in 2017. Mr. Kandamany is one of a handful of surgeons in Australia - and the only plastic surgeon in Tasmania - to be dual qualified in Plastic Surgery. Mr. Kandamany is experienced in the full range of plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, and leads both the Breast Reconstruction and Burns Laser service at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
He is extensively published within peer reviewed literature, is a senior clinical lecturer with the University of Tasmania and actively leads regular clinical departmental teaching within the Royal Hobart Hospital.
Dr Meg Creely is a Hobart based General Practitioner and Clinical Editor for Tasmanian Health Pathways. She is a strong advocate for the use of Health Pathways to enhance communication and knowledge sharing among Tasmanian health professionals and to provide locally relevant clinical guidance in the increasingly complex landscape of general practice. Meg has been involved in the development of the national pathway for the Lung Cancer Screening Program.
