This 1 hour 29-minute webinar was delivered under the Primary Care Enhancement for People with Intellectual Disability program (PCEP).
People with intellectual disability experience poor health outcomes in comparison to the general population. Many common health conditions are missed or poorly managed in this population group. Diagnostic overshadowing is also common, where health issues are attributed to the person’s disability, and interventions, screening and treatment may not be undertaken. Communication is a key part of any effective consultation. This event is aimed at primary health care professionals to increase their understanding of the health needs of people with intellectual disability and provide practical communication strategies to support effective consultations.
